Our Elected Officials are Preparing to Rezone and Sell Off Protected Public Lands to Industrial Interests.

Chattanooga, TN, was recently honored as the first National Park City in North America, a designation that recognizes our city's commitment to preserving natural spaces and promoting sustainable urban living. Yet just months after this recognition, our largest park, Enterprise South Nature Park, is under threat from industrial development plans proposed by the Hamilton County and Chattanooga governments. This encroachment would irrevocably alter the landscape and diminish the park's value as a sanctuary for both humans and wildlife.

Our Leaders Are Framing This as a “One-or-the-Other” Choice. It’s Not.

Local officials are presenting this “land swap” as if we must choose between two natural areas, Enterprise and McDonald Farm — but these are entirely separate natural properties, nearly an hour’s drive apart.  It’s not a trade-off; it’s a political maneuver that risks permanently damaging Enterprise South Nature Park and discounting the portion of the community it serves.

We are the nation’s first National Park City—

We deserve both.

Reporting at the Chattanooga Times Free Press brought this to light, as supporting officials had not planned to share details until the proposal was much farther along. Now that we know, it’s critical for the public to show up and speak out.

who we are.

Save Enterprise South Nature Park is a volunteer-run, community organization serving Chattanooga and Hamilton County to protect our most-loved nature park from industrial development.

This effort started on October 9th 2025, when two local families saw the news: county and city governments plan to rezone approximately 500 acres of federally protected, publicly-owned land within the boundaries of Enterprise South Nature Park for industrial use. Both families sprang into action. Within days, a petition was started, community awareness events were organized, and a team of dedicated community members was formed. We share love of, respect for, and responsibility to act as stewards for our county’s largest park and public natural space — when our elected leaders do not.
